Here's how to get started with your Nublume Lion's Mane Mushroom Grow Kit:

• Open Your Kit: Inside the box, you'll find a substrate block fully colonized by mushroom mycelium. Carefully open the front of the kit along the perforated line. Then, you can toss the leftover cardboard.

• Make the Cut: Using a sharp knife or scissors, gently slice an 'X' into the plastic covering the substrate block. This is where your mushrooms will begin to grow.

• Spray & Humidity: At the top of the box, you'll find a sprayer, a grow guide, and a humidity tent. Fill the sprayer with tap water and generously mist the area where you made your 'X' cut. Aim to spritz your kit at least twice a day – even more if you're in a dry climate. If your mushrooms start but then dry up, it's a sign that the air is too dry. In this case, use the provided humidity tent. (We often suggest using the tent regardless!)

• Find the Perfect Spot: Place your kit in a humid part of your home, away from direct sunlight. A kitchen counter or a shelf can be ideal spots. The mycelium in the kit will react to the oxygen in the air and start producing mushroom 'pins' – these are your baby mushrooms.

• Watch and Wait: It usually takes between 5 to 14 days for the pins to form. Once you see these pins, the mushrooms will grow quickly, especially in warm conditions. Keep a close eye on them. Your mushrooms should be ready to harvest about 2 to 5 days after the pins appear.

These kits are absolutely suited for beginners! This is the easiest way to grow mushrooms and anyone can do it!

• How often should I water my mushroom grow kit?

You should mist your grow kit 2-3x per day. If you are unsure if your kit is getting enough moisture, refer to the grow guide and setup the humidity tent in your BloomBox.

• What is the ideal temperature for growing mushrooms?

The ideal temperature for your Lion's Mane grow kit is 65-75 degrees F.

• Why are my mushrooms not growing?

Hard to say. Humidity, temperature and fresh air exchange are all major factors when growing mushrooms. Bear in mind, this is a living organism and can be very finicky. Don't blame yourself, reach out to us anytime and we will get you up to speed.

• How do I know when to harvest the mushrooms?

Your mushrooms are ready to harvest your Lions Mane Mushrooms is when they become firm and have a slightly spongy texture. If you notice a light dusting of spores on the surrounding area, your mushrooms are ready.

• Can I grow mushrooms outdoors?

Mushrooms will absolutely grow outside and we do offer a guide on how to help with that but for this kit, we recommend for the first 1-3 flushes you keep them indoors for better control of their environment.

• Are the mushrooms safe to eat?

Mushrooms are absolutely safe to eat. See to "Thing to Know" below for more information on best practices for eating your mushrooms.

• How can I prevent mold or bacterial growth in the kit?

Mold and bacteria are tricky and sometimes inevitable. The best thing to do to prevent this is to keep your kit in a raised elevation and away from contamination prone settings like near fruit bowls or dirty areas in the kitchen. You can also use distilled water if you want to be extra careful.

• Can I reuse the mushroom grow kit?

We offer a number ways to reuse your grow kit and get additional uses out of it. Check back in our learning center for more ways to re-purpose your mushroom grow kit!

• What should I do if I see mold on my grow kit?

If you see mold you have a few options. The first one we recommend, is get a small amount of hydrogen peroxide. You can temporarily fill up your spray bottle provided for this. Spray the contaminated areas with hydrogen peroxide, one spray at a time. The mold should start to bubble and will eventually start to die off. You want to allow your mushrooms a fighting chance to grow. If this does not work, reach out to us and we will send you a new kit, no questions asked!

• Can I grow different types of mushrooms with the same kit?

No, unfortunately these kits are already colonized with a specific mycelium strain. If you would like to grow your own spores, refer to our "magic grow kit".

• What happens if the mushrooms dry out?

Dried out mushrooms will stop growing if they do not get the moisture they need. You are going to want to increase the moisture in their environment and they should resume growth.

• Why are my mushrooms growing oddly shaped or discolored?

They might not be getting enough moisture, fresh air, or too much sunlight. Reach out to us and we can try and determine what you have going on!

• Is it normal for the kit to have a strong smell?

Mushrooms can have a very strong, earthy or mildew smell. This is okay and you should just keep an eye on it to make sure it grows properly.

• How can I increase the yield of my mushroom kit?

Increasing your yield comes from keeping your kit as hydrated as possible but without over saturating. This is why we recommend using the humidity tent as it helps remove human error and keeps your little guys as moist as possible!

As mushrooms mature, they release spores, a natural part of their life cycle. Individuals with allergies or weakened immune systems might want to place their mushroom kits in an outdoor space or somewhere with good airflow during this phase. Mushroom spores can occasionally cause respiratory discomfort. Even for those who are not typically allergic or immunocompromised, spores might sometimes be irritating. To minimize exposure to spores, consider harvesting your Nublume mushrooms when they're younger, reducing the amount of spores they produce.
